The practical test will last approximately 40 minutes.
The practical test will last approximately 40 minutes.
On meeting the examiner you will be asked to sign the insurance and residency declaration.
If your signature is not identical to that displayed on your provisional licence the test will not go ahead.
So please make sure you sign correctly.
You will then be asked by the examiner if you would like your instructor to accompany you on your driving test, this is your personal choice and will not have any affect on the result of the test.
Before you start the practical drive your eyesight will be checked.
You will also be asked one of the two vehicle safety questions referred to as show me/tell me. The 'tell me question' will be addressed at the start before starting the engine whilst the 'show me question' will be carried out whilst the vehicle is on the move.

During your test the examiner will fully direct you.
However, approximately 20 minutes of this will be 'Independent Driving' where you will be expected to follow road signs and/or a short series of verbal directions or follow the SATNAV.
Don't panic if you go off route, the satnav will reroute you. You can't fail for going the wrong way. What is important is that you stay calm and drive safely just remember do not become a HAZARD in the process.
Focus on your drive and the examiners instructions, forget what is being noted down by the examiner as you will be distracted from the road ahead which could lead to you making a serious or dangerous fault.
REVERSE MANOEUVRE:
You will also be asked to perform any one of the following reverse exercises:
Forward Bay Parking
Reverse Bay Parking
Reverse Parallel Parking
Parking on the right side of the road and reversing back for 2 car lengths and re-join the traffic.
You may also be asked to do an emergency stop. [This is not counted as your manoeuvre.]
During your test you are allowed to make up to 15 driver errors.
If you commit a single serious or dangerous fault your test result will be unsuccessful.
At the end of the test the examiner will tell you the final result and ask if you like your instructor present for the debrief. You will be sent a copy of the driving test report to your registered email address that you used to book the practical test.
If you have passed you will receive a signed Pass Certificate from the examiner and as long as you are insured and your car has road tax and MOT you can legally start driving from that point onwards.
