OUR INSTRUCTOR TRAINING OFFERS YOU THE HIGHEST QUALITY TUITION:
At Passway Drive the training is delivered by our main instructor 'Zak' [with 17 years of experience], who is an extremely dedicated professional committed to providing you with the service you deserve.
We pride ourselves on teaching you the skills you need to become a safe, confident, competent driver and instructor - not just to pass your test.
To qualify as an ADI you require to have your name entered onto the ADI register, it is essential that you meet the following requirements.
You need to:
be over the age of 21
have a full and unrestricted driving licence which you have held for at least 3 years
have no more than 5 penalty points on that licence
be a fit and proper person ( all convictions, including motoring convictions are taken into account)
You will also need to pass the 3 parts of the DVSA's qualifying examination to become a fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor.
All three parts of the examination must be taken in this order and part 3 must be completed within 2 years of passing part 1.
The DVSA's qualifying examinations have set fees:
Part 1 £81
Part 2 £111
Part 3 £111
You start with part 1 (theory), and work your way through until you are fully qualified.
Once you have passed part 1, you have to complete the remaining 2 parts within 2 years, or you will have to start again.
It is a case of 3 strikes and you’re out.
You only have 3 attempts to pass part 2 and part 3, otherwise you have to wait 2 years and try again.
Once you have passed part 1 and part 2, you can get a trainee driving instructors licence and start teaching for payment in order to get experience.
Only when you have passed all 3 tests, you can join the ADI register as an approved driving instructor.
You will be given the ADI certificate which can be displayed in your car.
PART 1 - THEORY TEST
It is split into two phases – multiple choice and hazard perception.
The multiple choice test consists of 100 questions, each question having a choice of 4 different answers.
You must select the correct answer.
The pass mark is 85%.
The hazard perception test is made up of 14 video clips, each clip containing 1 road hazard.
You must press the button as soon as you see a hazard developing which will require the driver to take action.
The earlier you detect the hazard, the better your score.
Working at home with the DVSA workbooks/manuals and CD/DVD ROM software you'll progress through the course and arrange the test when you're ready.
For PART 1 you'll receive 3 hours of 1-to-1 training.
PART 2 - DRIVING ABILITY
This section is similar to the standard driving test. Although you will need excellent eyesight, answer 5 safety questions, '3 tell me', '2 show me' and drive on the motorway.
The test is also longer in duration. You will be required to do two reversing manoeuvres and possibly an emergency stop.
A maximum of 6 driver faults are acceptable, all in all a very high level of driving competency standard is required.
This module consists of practical driving sessions and is designed to bring your personal standard of driving up to the standard required by the DVSA. Again you'll train with your driving instructor trainer on a 1-to-1 basis, who will prepare you for a 1 hour 10 minute practical test of your driving ability.
For this part of the test, you'll need to demonstrate a high level of driving technique, anticipation and consideration of other road users.
ADVANCED EYE SIGHT TEST
ADVANCED SAFETY QUESTIONS
ADVANCED INDEPENDANT DRIVING
ADVANCED MOTORWAY DRIVING
For PART 2 on average you'll receive between 16 - 25 hours of 1-to-1 training.
PART 3 - INSTRUCTIONAL ABILITY
In this test the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) examiner will watch you give a client-centred driving lesson lasting about 45 minutes to one of your pupils.
Your pupil must drive for at least 40 minutes of the lesson. At the start of the lesson, discuss the goals for the lesson and risk management with your pupil. At the end of the lesson, give your pupil no more than 3 minutes to reflect on their performance.
The examiner will look for evidence that you meet the national standard for driver and rider training.
YOUR PUPIL:
Your pupil can be: 'a partly trained learner', 'fully trained learner' or 'full licence holder
Your pupil cannot be: a learner who has just started learning to drive or an approved driving instructor (ADI) or someone else who is preparing to take the ADI part 3 test.
YOU'LL BE EXAMINED ON:
You’ll be marked on 17 areas of competence that are grouped into 3 categories:
1. lesson planning 2. risk management 3. teaching and learning strategies
The 17 areas of competence are listed in the ADI part 3 test report form, which the examiner will fill in at the end of your test.
You’ll get a score from 0 to 3 for each of the 17 competencies, which are added up to work out if you’ve passed the test, and what your grade will be.
PASSWAY DRIVE SCHOOL OF MOTORING PART 3 TEST TRAINING FORMAT:
Passway Drive Training Course Overview:
Our training courses will lead you step by step through the necessary process for you to obtain your ADI qualification.
You can study full time or part time.
The programme of study is tailored specifically to you and your needs.
This allows you to work at your own pace, balancing your current commitments with your training.
Passway Drive offers 1:1 practical sessions with your trainer.
These sessions will amount to approximately:
Part 1: 3 hours
Part 2: 16-25 hours
Part 3: 40 Hours Instructional training (in addition to 20 hours of part 3 test training)
Your trainer will teach you the whole driving syllabus as highlighted on the ADI-21-AT instructor training declarion report form.
Your trainer will initially set out the lesson plans for each individual subject together with briefings and visual aids that will help you and your learner.
Your trainer will then practically show you how to fully guide the relative instructions for that subject on the move. Whilst also being fully aware and assessing the constant changing dynamics of your surroundings and always being fully aware of your learners actions on the move.
Your trainer will train you how to plan and deal with hazards whilst giving the correct instructions. Remember instructions may need to be modified according to what hazards you find yourself up against. You will develop the necessary skills to help eliminate putting yourself at risk and ultimately keeping yourself, your learner other road users and your vehicle safe at all times.
By the end of the course you should be able to follow the core competencies on each subject. As an instructor you should be able to: Identify / Analyse / Remedy and understand the level of instructions required to pitch according to your pupils ability: Guide / Prompt / Independent in a friendly non discretionary manner.
To assess your ability as an instructor and to make sure that you have the necessary skills required to teach, you will be tested by your trainer in the following way:
You will be asked to give two 30 minute “mock” driving lessons to the trainer [acting as a pupil], on any subject he chooses.
Your trainer will make mistakes on purpose and ask questions, to judge how you respond. Your trainer will also require you to brief him on the objectives of the lesson.
This way of testing will separate and highlight anyone who is unsuitable to be an instructor.
In this part of the test, you'll need to demonstrate that you can teach others.
In two 30 minute sessions the trainer acts as a pupil in a role-play situation.
For this module, you'll receive 40 hours of 1-to-1 training with your driving instructor trainer.
[In addition to 20 hours of PART 3 TEST TRAINING to help prepare you for the exam]
After passing all three parts of the DVSA qualifying process, you'll be awarded a green badge indicating that you're a fully qualified instructor.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER:
As the tests are so difficult, it is important that you choose the right instructor trainer.
Don’t automatically choose the cheapest course as this will not always give you the highest quality of training.
Remember – treat the training course costs as an investment for your future and seek training with someone that is recommended to you or go via their record and reputation.
Passway Drive Instructor Training Prices:
