Before you can apply for your practical test you must pass your theory test.
The theory test is made up of two parts:
Embedded Files
The first part is 50 multiple choice questions.
Out of which 5 questions will be related to a particular scenario.
The multiple-choice questions in the theory test are based on 3 books:
To pass the multiple choice test you need to answer at least 43 correctly out of 50.
The second part is a hazard perception test.
This includes 14 video clips.
Each clip contains a minimum of 1 developing hazard and you will be marked on your response to these hazards.
The earlier you spot the hazard the higher your score.
The maximum mark for each hazard is 5.
To pass the hazard perception test you need to score at least 44 correctly out of 75.
You must pass BOTH parts of the test to receive your certificate.

At Passway Drive we advise you to start your practical lessons whilst studying for your theory test.
This is for three reasons:
Your instructor can help guide you with the theory test. They can advise you of the most genuine up-to-date apps that you can download on your smartphone/tablet devices to help learn on the move and in particular the Hazard perception element as this will play out better in real life situations during the practical lessons.
The theory and practical sides are supposed to work in parallel. Meaning the theory and practical tests are an overlap of one another, whilst driving with your instructor you will be prompted to look out for certain signs, road markings and road procedures to help develop your knowledge.
Once you pass your theory test you only have a 2 year window to pass your practical test, if you don't you will have to resit the theory test as the certificate would have expired. Often people pass the theory test and then for one reason or another take a long time before they begin the practical lessons and then in the end find themselves running out of time. By starting the practical lessons before sitting the theory test we believe it will help motivate you to get your licence much sooner.
